Life Balance
Good morning everyone! 8 January 2026
Wow, we're already into the second week of January! 😅
Time really does fly by, hey? It just reminds me how important it is for us as children of God to keep our eyes on the things that truly matter – and to live our lives with that Godly balance we're called to.
I hear it everywhere, "work-life balance" – like it's this big goal you finally tick off if you make all the right decisions. There's no shortage of courses, life coaches and Instagram reels promising they'll show us how to nail it. And as January 2026 arrived, suddenly everyone's talking resolutions, habits and upgrading their lives.
But for us as God's children, I think we need to pause and ask some real questions:
✨ How does this stuff actually line up with my walk with Jesus?
✨ Are the changes I'm chasing sustainable, or will they be a memory by February?
✨ Am I planning my days so that God's will is right there in the middle – obvious to me and to everyone around me?
Let's not get caught up chasing the world's idea of balance.
Rather, like Jesus said, seek first His kingdom and His righteousness (Matt 6:33), and trust Him to sort out the rest with real wisdom, proper rest and clear purpose.
This morning, I was searching for answers and then came across this scripture, and specifically these two mentioned fruits of the Spirit that I think will really help with this: gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:23).
Gentleness isn't being soft or weak – it's power that's submitted to God. A soft heart allows God to work. And having a soft heart, is a choice. The Holy Spirit approach people with this soft heart condition, diligently.
It's about choosing kindness when you could easily snap back.
And self-control? That's the Spirit helping us say no to reactions or an impulse that pull us off track – whether it's anger, overeating, scrolling too long?
Paul wraps it up by saying there's no law against stuff like this! (I thought there was a bit of humour here) Nobody's ever going to outlaw love, peace or self-control – the world desperately needs more of it.
When we stay close to the Holy Spirit, He grows this fruit in us bit by bit. It's not about working harder; it's about surrendering more.
So, let's ask Him to cultivate a bit more gentleness and self-control in our hearts – for His glory and for the people we do life with.
What's one area in your week where you're inviting God to bring His balance – maybe through gentleness or self-control? Remember, we're are all walking together and in faith!
God bless you!! ⚖️
