Allowing good seed in our life
Good morning,
The last week we have had a tough, difficult week. We can all associate with those types of weeks. Both Wilma and I had a serious bout of flu that we needed to navigate.
I want to share an interesting subject that the Holy Spirit spoke into my heart. I heard very clearly these words spoken into my spirit: "corruptible" and "incorruptible seed," and what followed was an amazing experience.
Not only was the sermon on Sunday morning exactly on that topic matter, but it also made me sit and spend time on what this really means.
1. How the Rebirth (Being Born Again) Takes Place Imagine you’re planting a tiny seed in your garden. The old, natural way we’re born is like planting in poor, rocky soil—it’s the “perishable seed” we all start with. It grows for a while, but eventually it withers because of hurts, mistakes, and the brokenness sin brings into every life.
But God offers something far better. 1 Peter 1:23 (NIV) says: “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Practically, the rebirth happens like this:
- Someone (or you reading the Bible) simply shares the good news: Jesus loves you so much He died on the cross to take away every sin and rose again so you can have eternal life with Him.
- In that moment, you open your heart and say something honest and simple like, “Jesus, I believe You died for me. I’m sorry for my wrongs. Come into my life and make me new.”
- That’s it! The Holy Spirit plants the imperishable seed, the living Word, right into your heart. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. God does the miracle. You are born again instantly, just like a baby taking its first breath. For me it was the realisation that over a period of a week after I invited Christ into my life, that my mannerisms, and the way I spoke, and the way I used to react has changed.
2. How Our Heart Actually Changes
Right at that moment, God keeps a wonderful promise from the Old Testament:
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV) “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”
Your old heart—maybe hardened by pain, anger, shame, or just feeling far from God. It then becomes soft and alive. And suddenly you notice:
- You want to talk to God like a friend.
- Sin doesn’t feel as appealing.
- You start caring about people the way Jesus does.
It’s not that you have become perfect overnight (none of us do!), but the direction of your heart flips. The Holy Spirit moves in and begins changing desires from the inside out. You’ll catch yourself thinking, “I used to react with anger, but now I feel peace instead.” That’s the new heart at work!
3. This is an ongoing process, but we have to ALLOW it.
The Holy Spirit is like the gentle gardener who keeps tending your heart-garden. He wants to bring healing to every hurt and help you forgive so bitterness doesn’t choke the beautiful new life. And many other things are impacted as well.
So by applying certain principles like,
- Opening the Bible daily (even 5-10 minutes).
- Talking to Him all day
- Choosing forgiveness as an act of trust in faith
- Letting the fruit grow. As you keep saying “yes” to the Spirit, you’ll see His beautiful fruit appearing: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV). These are signs of healing—especially gentleness when you forgive and kindness when you’ve been wounded.
- Staying close to other believers. Like plants growing together in a garden, we encourage one another and remind each other of God’s promises.
